Mandocello
MC868
Double-Course Delight
Handcrafted in Ovation’s flagship workshop in New Hartford, Connecticut, the Ovation Mandocello combines mandolin-style tuning (four pairs of strings tuned in fifths) and a full 25-1/2” guitar scale. This adventurous mix of tuning and scale length give the Ovation Mandocello astonishing sonic breadth and power. With light-gauge strings, the Mandocello sounds like a mandolin that’s tuned an octave lower. But put on a set of heavy strings, and the Ovation Mandocello resembles a bass with double-course strings.
The instrument’s solid-spruce top and modified A-bracing generate clear, sparking overtones, and Ovation’s pioneering multi-soundhole design enhances string vibration and sustain by improving soundboard efficiency. The Super-Shallow composite body is comfortable to hold and play, and a cutaway insures easy access to the ebony fretboard. The ultra-quiet OP-50 preamp offers 4-band EQ and a chromatic tuner, and its dual XLR and ¼” output jacks eliminate the need for a direct box onstage. If you’re a sonic experimenter, you’ll love this versatile and distinctive instrument.
Super Shallow Bowl
Ovation’s slim Super-Shallow bowl delivers a clear acoustic sound while providing the low-profile comfort of an electric guitar. Offering extremely durable construction, this Lyrachord composite bowl weighs 33% less than its deeper siblings. Perfectly suited for studio or stage use, guitars equipped with a Super-Shallow body retain the outstanding string-to-string balance of original Ovation designs. Plugged in, Super-Shallow models produce ample volume for any venue. With no hard edges to dig into your rib cage, this easy-to-hold body is also ideal for younger players or smaller guitarists.
OP-50
The ultra-quiet OP-50 preamp features easy-to-use 4-band EQ. By cutting or boosting your guitar’s signal at 87 Hz, 580 Hz, 6.7 kHz, and 12 kHz, you can accurately tailor your sound to any musical environment. Dual XLR and 1/4” output jacks connect the OP-50 to virtually any sound system, stage amp, or recording console, and eliminate the need for an external direct box. Equipped with an easy-to-read LED array, the onboard chromatic tuner works for standard, open, or altered tunings, and can be calibrated to non-standard reference pitches.
