Randy credits GEORGE BENSON, PAUL JACKSON JR., LARRY CARLTON and LEE RITENOUR as the musicians who have inspired and helped him to develop his sound. Throughout his twenty-six year career, Randy has worked with a many legendary artists including PATTI LABELLE, GLADYS KNIGHT, AL GREEN, THE O’JAYS, GROVER WASHINGTON JR, TEDDY PENDERGRASS, AL JARREAU, and PHYLLIS HYMAN.
Randy’s professional music career began when he was asked to join the acclaimed jazz group PIECES OF A DREAM in 1983 and the rest, as they say, is history. He went on to write PIECES’ Top 20 hit “What Can I Do”. He performed with the trio for six years, and then went on to produce various projects for EMI and Columbia Records.
Always seeking to expand his musical talent, Randy has managed to achieve career longevity by continuing to work with a variety of artists such as JOHN LEGEND, MUSIQ SOULCHILD, THE ROOTS, QUEEN LATIFAH, CHRISETTE MICHELE, KINDRED THE FAMILY SOUL, THE BACKSTREET BOYS, BRITNEY SPEARS, , STING, ELIOTT YAMIN and countless others. He has also served as musical director for both JILL SCOTT and the late GERALD LEVERT with whom he enjoyed a seventeen year personal and professional relationship.
He has appeared with artists on numerous television programs such as OPRAH, THE TODAY SHOW, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, THE LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, THE TONIGHT SHOW with JAY LENO, LATE NIGHT with JIMMY FALLON, LIVE with REGIS AND KELLY, THE EARLY SHOW, THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW, LATER with JOOLS HOLLAND, THE TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW, VH1, BET and TV One.
Randy co-produced and co-wrote with GERALD LEVERT on his 2002 “The G Spot”. He also shares writing credits on songs for JILL SCOTT, THE O’JAYS, MUSIQ SOULDCHILD, JOHNNY MATHIS, GERALD VEASLEY, WILL DOWNING, AL GREEN, SISTER SLEDGE and GROVER WASHINGTON JR. featuring NANCY WILSON. In 2008 Randy received a Grammy nomination for the song “Teach Me” by MUSIQ SOULCHILD. He also received a Grammy certificate in 2009 for “Lay It Down” by AL GREEN.
Like in past years, Randy shows no signs of slowing the pace of his career. In the spring of 2010 he embarked on a national tour with multi-talented artists JILL SCOTT and MAXWELL and is currently in the studio putting the final touches on his solo record. His forthcoming debut promises to deliver innovative, soulful music that will appeal to both the young and seasoned listener.
