Harmonizing

Share

In this guitar lesson will learn how to take a single note melody line and harmonize it using three basic principles.

They three basic principles are:

  1. Identify melodies within a scale
  2. Place melody notes as the 3rd, root or 5th of a chord, played “on top” of the chord
  3. Learn the chord forms that can do this, especially on the three highest strings of the guitar

Basics you need to know for this lesson:

  • the chromatic scale
  • how major scales are derived from the chromatic scale
  • the chords of a harmonized major scale and how they are constructed
