Sweet Child O’ Mine

Share

In this guitar lesson you will learn an acoustic finger style version of Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses, a band that’s sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.  (To gain perspective on that number, Lady Gaga currently stands at 15 million.)

The song makes for a great lesson because, interestingly enough, it was inspired by a guitar exercise.  The story goes that while Drummer Steven Adler and Slash were warming up and Slash began to play a “string skipping” exercise while making faces at Steven.  Izzy Stradlin, the rhythm guitarist, asked Slash to play it again and soon enough it turned into a jam.  Axl overheard the jam going on downstairs, started writing a melody and lyrics and the classic song was born.

The lesson will be focus solely on the iconic riff Slash wrote and the chords played over it.
